Haenam Cheonilgwan was started in 1924 in Haenam Market by the founder, Park Sung-soon.

Mrs. Park traveled all over Jeolla Province, southern part of South Korea, to get good ingredients in season and cooked the food with only her natural hands and talent. With her effort, Haenam Cheonilgwan was recognized as “one of the three best limited restaurants that show the essence of Joseon’s BaekBAN(as traditional meal), and the taste is colorful, hearty, and fantastic” (Yoo Heung-jun’s My Cultural Travels, Book 1).


Mrs. Jung Sim Kim, 2nd CEO and the youngest daughter of Founder Mrs. Park, had inherited the founder’s skills of a keen eye for recognizing good ingredients at a glance, as well as the sincerity of preparing the best dish and taste. Mrs. Kim had always said that Korean food needs laborious progress, requiring a lot of care and effort. But surprisingly that Korean food can only taste good if you follow the process of making it thoroughly, without neglecting a single detail.
